Jewish Holocaust Centre

The Jewish Holocaust Centre offers the unique experience of hearing eyewitness accounts from Holocaust survivors who volunteer as guides in the Museum. Learn about events of the Holocaust from those who were there. Along with artefacts collected from Melbourne's Holocaust survivor community, archival footage and state-of-the-art technology, a visit to the JHC is an edifying and moving experience. Human Rights' issues are examined through the events of the Holocaust, emphasising its relevance to today's world. Established in 1984 by a dedicated group of visionary Holocaust survivors, the Jewish Holocaust Centre (JHC) is an institution dedicated to the memory of the six million Jews who were murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators between 1933 and 1945. Since 1984, the Jewish Holocaust Centre has become an Australian landmark, gaining many plaudits and coveted awards. In 2012 the Centre attracted 30,000 visitors, 70 per cent of these being school students who went though the Centre's education program which aims to combat racism, injustice and hatred, while fostering the values of freedom and critical thinking. In 2010 the Centre's museum, went through a complex up-grade resulting in the re-housing of photographs, artworks and text, highlighting their wealth of original material from the Holocaust period, and adding state-of-the-art technology. A visit to the Jewish Holocaust Centre is a deeply touching and paradoxically up-lifting experience, as you will witness the strength of human resilience in the face unimaginable horror.
