About Lake Sambell Reserve

Lake Sambell is located within the township of Beechworth. It was the site of the Rocky Mountain Mining Company open cut sluice mining operation during the mid1800s and the early 1900s. In the 1920s the area was created into a recreational lake and reserve, locals and visitors enjoy swimming, fishing, walking and cycling around the lake. Kids will enjoy the adventure playground at Sandy Beach. The Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail has been extended so that it passes through the reserve. Extensive work has been undertaken to provide walking trails throughout the reserve. There are two electric barbecues, picnic tables and seating.
