About Old Treasury Building

Widely regarded as the finest nineteenth century building in Melbourne, the Old Treasury Building has been an important government building since its completion in 1862.

Built by 19 year old architect John James Clark, the Old Treasury Building now houses exhibitions from the Public Record Office of Victoria. As part of the 150th anniversary celebrations, an exhibition about JJ Clark is currently on display.

Our permanent collection covers Ned Kelly, Indigenous Australians, Early Melbourne and much more. On display until October 27, ‘Trams: Moving Pictures’ featuring famous artists vibrant tram art from 1978 to 1993. Plus the historical 1910 film of Melbourne cable trams, photos of early painted trams and memorabilia. From mid-November, ‘Streets of Melbourne’ will display maps and images from Public Record Office Victoria.
