Rockhampton Art Gallery was established in 1967 and houses the finest collection of mid-twentieth century Australian art in regional Queensland. Predominantly acquired through sponsorship and benefaction, the collection has grown to a strong representation of modern and contemporary Australian paintings, prints, ceramics and photographs, and art and artefacts of central Queensland. The Gallery also has a significant collection of late twentieth century British prints, and a collection of Japanese objects.
The development of this collection reflects a history of civic pride and generosity from residents of the Rockhampton region. Today, the Gallery honours this tradition and commitment by devoting the Anderson Gallery solely to the display of their fine collection. From 3 September 2016 works from the collection will be regularly rotated to showcase this rich and diverse collection. This exhibition space acknowledges the ongoing support of the Anderson family to Rockhampton Art Gallery....
