Each year the Barkly Regional Council hosts the Australia Day activities and this year is no exception.
On 26 January the nation celebrates what's great about being Australian with official and formal functions as well as fun activities with family and friends.
The 'Golden Heart' town of Tennant Creek celebrates all day:
starting early (6am) with The Australia Day Barkly Triathlon around Lake Mary Ann.
The official flag raising and singing of the National Anthem is hosted by Battery Hill at 8am, then join participants to dine on a generous outback 'Aussie breakfast'.
Refuelled and ready for some fun, head out to nearby Tingkkarli/Lake Mary Ann from 12 Noon to compete in a range of very Australian activities, including egg catching, sack races and thong throwing. The days' highlight is the raft race.
